Embroidery and lace

You may be dreaming of creations worthy of the greatest names and diving into the world of embroidery and lace. The Torretto Tessuti House is happy to tell you a little bit of history but also to present you with some inspiration to unravel the threads of these ancestral skills.

1. GENESIS

1.1 HISTORICAL LACE

From the XVIth century, lace makes known its lightness in Northern Europe and Italy. It appears for the first time under the word "lace" (said "small teeth") in 1545, in the inventory of the dowry of the sister of François Ier. The lace could then be made manually with the needle or the spindle.

In the 1830s, Mr. Leavers combined the Jacquard technique with the tulle loom: this was the birth of the lace loom.

Still today, the secret of this delicate material lies in its manufacturing technique which consists in interlacing several threads, simultaneously, to give an openwork material. Initially called "passement", the lace was reserved for luxury articles even if it tends to be democratized.

1.2 FAMOUS GUIPURE

Did you know that guipure is not a lace but an embroidery? Etymologically, the word means "to twist". So let's follow the thread and discover its rich structure:

If guipure is usually classified in the lace section, it is not made on lace looms. That's right! Guipure is made on embroidery looms, and that's the secret of its difference.

The guipure is an embroidery whose bottom has been eliminated. Therefore, it is easy to distinguish it from a lace. The lace is light, and always has a bottom. The guipure is often heavier, thick and very open.

2. INSPIRATIONS

Core values of the summer and spring seasons, the creations in embroidery or lace are declined in versions as chic as romantic.

It's not a scoop: the little embroidered or lace dress is a must-have for spring/summer. Romantic, light, elegant, it can be worn everywhere, all the time. In sequins for garden parties or in cotton for meetings, it is ideal especially when it is hot.

But that's not all, from the big fashion shows to the ready-to-wear boutiques, outfits made of embroidered fabrics or lace are a must have to create a sensation.

"An haute couture show without embroidery is like the 14th of July without fireworks" (François Lesage).

This season, pastel lace is found in subtle touches on bi-material blouses.

Combination in guipure, slightly structured or long dress in pink lace with a straight cut ... these pieces are often tightened at the waist to bring even more femininity.

For more comfort, add a flesh-colored or tone-on-tone background to reveal only what you decide to show.

One thing is sure, no matter what your style, the priceless beauty of embroidery and lace fabrics will enhance your ideas all season long! In lingerie, accessories or finishing touches in Braidthey will even win the hearts of the most shy. What's up? Would you succumb to the delicate and inescapable beauty of these fabrics?
