Mesh, comfortable elegance

You may be wondering what design project would be ideal for mid-season? La Maison Torretto Tessuti presents a family of fabrics with endless possibilities: Knitwear. Elastic, comfortable, modern... Let yourself be seduced by this knitwear that we are sure will surprise you!

What is La Maille?

Remember! There are two main families in textiles: The first is composed of fabrics made on looms, the warp and weft fabrics. The second is the "knitwear family", also called knitting, which includes all textiles that can be created by hand or on a knitting machine.

Unlike woven fabrics, the threads of knitted fabrics form loops (the "stitches") that intertwine with each other to form the fabric. Fascinating isn't it?

There are many variations of structures and patterns that have evolved from the basic principles of knitting. The different types of yarns, stitches contribute to different characteristics... But what binds this large family of fabrics is without a doubt their remarkable elasticity.

Knitting is a manufacturing process that makes the fabric naturally stretchy. Sometimes elastane is even added to make these knitted fabrics even more stretchy. Comfort and ease are therefore at the rendezvous for our greatest pleasure!

basic knitwear

1. Jersey fabric

One of the most famous knitted fabrics is the "Jersey " fabric. Did you know that? The name comes from the island of Jersey, where this technique was used as early as the Middle Ages! Jersey, also called single knit or stockinette, is one of the most basic forms of knitting.

How to recognize the Jersey fabric?
  • Its knitting is irreversible (different front and back), but its faceis smooth and its back is rough.
  • Jersey fabric is lighter than other knits, it tends tocurl.
  • However, it is thicker and warmer than fabric made from the same yarn.
  • It is more extensible in the width direction than in the length direction.

2. Interlock fabric

Interlock is an alternative to jersey with a light twill pattern.

How to recognize Interlock fabric?
  • If your fabric is reversible, smooth and therows of stitches are visible when stretched, then it's probably an interlock fabric.
  • Its texture is firm. It is considered a thick, warm fabric that does not tend to roll or curl at the edges.
  • It does not shrink as much as other knit fabrics.
  • And the stretch of this fabric is often moderate throughout.

There are 2 other basic knits: The ribbed knit or the purl knit! But there are also many other types of knitwear, such as: Milano, Ribbed knitwear, Purl knitwear, English rib, Jacquard knitwear, Knitwear, Raschel knitwear, etc...

1. Full Milano mesh

Full Milano, also known as double knit, is a reversible knit with a 3 row repeat structure.

How to recognize the full milano fabric?
  • The full milano fabric is reversible.
  • It is rigid and has a high density, it is a resistant mesh.
  • It does not curl at the edges due to the balanced tension of the fabric loop.
2. Half-milano mesh

Half-milano, also known as semi-double knit, is an irreversible ribbed fabric with a two-row repeat structure.

How to recognize the half-milano fabric?
  • This tissue is irreversible.
  • It is stable and firm.
  • It does not have a tendency to curl.

The Mesh, what composition ?

There are also many knitted fabrics made of artificial fibers and/or synthetic materials. So... no matter what your preference is in terms of composition: you will find your happiness in our selection of knitted fabrics, won't you?
