A fabric through time

Velvet is a timeless material. It became popular as early as the 14th century, with its luxurious aspect due to its softness and the know-how required to create it. This material has been part of our daily lives for over a century thanks to its practicality. Soft, warm and comfortable... velvet has many adjectives to define it and seduce us.

How to choose the velvet fabric ?

There are three basic rules to follow when choosing a velvet fabric.

  • Rule #1: Choose the right composition.

A velvet fabric can be made from several types of fibers. There are wool velvet, silk velvet, synthetic velvet ... The important thing is to choose a reliable source, which guarantees quality as velvet made in Italy. But above all, you need a composition that is adapted to the project. For a fabric with a nice hold, you can choose a 100% cotton velvet. If the important thing for your project is comfort, choose a velvet made of Elastane for example.

  • Rule #2: Check the rib size of corduroys.

Velvet can be curled, cut, chiseled but also ribbed. But there are also different sizes of ribs for various visual renderings (500 - 750 - 800 - 1000 are the most famous). Depending on the aesthetic aspect you want, it is necessary to check the size of the ribs. The higher the number of ribs, the more delicate the rendering.

  • Rule #3: Appreciate the nuances.
Velvet's intricate weave provides a color-changing fabric. Because of its silky appearance and texture, the color of a velvet fabric changes slightly depending on the viewing angle, the position of the fabric and the light. There is no need to focus on a specific color to choose your velvet fabric. Instead, let yourself be charmed by the beauty of the reflections that each of these fabrics can offer.
